Panama Sound is a recording studio tucked into Richmond’s Annex neighborhood,
built for artists who want to make records in a calm, focused environment with someone who takes the music seriously.
I’m Logan — owner, engineer, and recordist. I built this studio around a simple idea: when people feel comfortable and supported, they make better music. Everything here is designed to remove friction, lower pressure, and keep the focus where it belongs — on the song. This page isn’t really about credentials or gear lists. It’s about how sessions feel, how decisions get made, and why artists tend to leave with work they’re genuinely proud of.
Who This Is For
Trust, comfort, and clarity matter just as much to good records as microphones and software do, and that’s the spirit this place runs on.

How I Approach Recording
I come to recording as a musician first. I’ve spent my life inside music — composing, arranging, and performing my own music, listening obsessively, mixing others’ music, and recording in all kinds of contexts — and that shapes every session I run. I’m not chasing technical perfection for its own sake.
I’m listening for the moment a performance sounds like it had always existed.
Every song tells you what it needs if you’re paying attention — sometimes that’s precision and control, sometimes it’s leaving room for a little imperfection and surprise.
The Way We Work
Sessions here are structured, but never rushed.
I’ve set up the workflow so the technical stuff runs quietly in the background, which means fewer distractions and fewer decisions pulling you out of the moment. You’re free to focus on playing, singing, experimenting, or just resting when you need to.
That means clear direction when it’s useful and space when it’s not, honest feedback without ego attached, and a pace that keeps things moving without ever feeling pressured. I’m not after endless takes or some theoretical idea of perfection — I’m after something that feels finished and sounds like you.

Studio Philosophy
A few things guide how this space runs. Silence and room tone are part of the music, not just the absence of it.
Subtle choices tend to age a lot better than flashy ones. Some of the best moments happen right before a take gets “right,” so a little imperfection is worth paying attention to rather than fixing. And every session teaches me something that makes the next one better — refinement here is ongoing, never finished.

The Studio Space
Panama Sound operates out of a quiet 1940s home originally built for WWII shipyard workers — peaceful, lived-in.
The main recording area connects a living room and dining room under a vaulted ceiling that gives the room a warm, open character. There are additional rooms for isolation when a session calls for it, so the space flexes for solo artists, small ensembles, and full bands alike.
Most people notice how quickly they settle in. The space is a large part of the equation here.

Tools, Not Distractions
The gear here is chosen to support performances, not to draw attention to itself.
Everything is familiar, well-maintained, and picked to solve real recording problems efficiently — you won’t be handed a wall of options, and nothing’s here just to impress. When the tools disappear into the background, the performance comes forward.
If you’re curious about the specifics, there’s a page that goes deeper — but it’s never something you need to know to make great work here.
The Bottom Line
What most artists notice first at Panama Sound isn’t the gear — it’s the calm.
My job is to create a space where you can focus, take a few risks, and commit to a performance without second-guessing yourself. When that happens, the technical side tends to take care of itself.
If that sounds like how you want to work, I’d genuinely like to hear what you’re making.
